The final starting day of the APL Road Series Vol.1 Philippines Main Event P5,000,000 Guaranteed had players flocking to the tables all afternoon that by the end of late registration it had amassed a 152 strong field. Combine that number with the previous starting days, this drove the prize pool to Php6,693,000 easily crushing the advertised guarantee. Closing Day 1C with the largest stack was Korea’s Choi Jae Young with 214,500.

Running alongside the Main were two side events which saw China’s Zhu Xing Biao and Philippines Adones Carmona capturing trophies. See the recaps below.

Unlike the previous starting days, a large contingent of local players stormed in to attend Day 1C that by the end of the scheduled 12 rounds, many of them advance to Day 2. Among them were decorated pros Mike TakayamaCzardy Rivera, and John Tech, all of whom closed the day with above average stacks. The largest however was bagged by the country’s fast rising superstar, Eugene Co, who took third rank with 193,800 in chips.

Co would have finished one spot higher had it not been for Choi Jae Young’s late game takedown. During one of the last hands of the day, Young shipped in a sizable pot that sent his stack skyrocketing to the leader’s seat. Young held 4c5c trips over AdQd two pair on a board of 4d4hQcAcKd with all the chips going in on the turn. Young ended the day with a commanding 214,500.

At Young’s heels was fellow Korean player Lee Chang Gon in second rank with 201,800. One of Lee’s victims of the day was Rommel Angeles whose top two pair fell to Lee’s set of threes.
